Your Duramax is a powerhouse that you may want to modify, or throw a big trailer behind and make it work for you. Both of these are great, but you don’t want that allision to overheat as that engine works. The stock cooler setup that these trucks come with sometimes fails and causes higher temperatures that you don’t want to see, this part is designed to prevent that.
The stock thermostatic bypass for warming up the Allison quickly in cold weather conditions is a good idea in principle, but in practice, we’ve seen the valve fail to force trans fluid around the cooler in warm weather conditions that cause dangerous fluid temperatures for built and stock transmissions alike. We’ve been running this design on our shop development trucks and with our built transmissions successfully and are now making them available for purchase separately due to popular demand.
